Fonseca Vintage Port 2016

Taasting Profile: Dense purple black with a narrow purple rim. The nose opens with very fine pure black fruit, a fusion of black cherry, cassis and blackberry jam aromas, with notes of crushed mint, an ethereal fragrance of violets and undertones of ripe tropical fruit. The palate is supported by a vibrant acidity and taut, wiry tannins that provide structure but also texture and volume. The fresh berry flavours carry into the long finish a finely crafted and perfectly balanced Vintage Port.

Grape: Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francêsca and Touriga Nacional.

Serving Tips: The wine benefits from being served between 16ºC to 18ºC. When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton, Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue. Vintage port is also good with chocolate - a flattering accompaniment to top quality, hand-made chocolates.

Winemaking: Fonseca belongs in the first rank of Vintage Port houses. It is recognised for the stylistic consistency of its wines which have been made by five generations of the same family since the firm’s foundation in 1822. Fonseca Vintage Ports are noted for their expressive, luscious fruitiness, which develops great opulence and complexity with age, as well as a voluptuous roundness on the palate supported by velvety mouth-filling tannins.
